  • West Ham 1-3 Bolton Wanderers: Elmander double

Johan Elmander struck twice as Bolton Wanderers survived a brief scare to secure a 3-1 victory over sorry West Ham at Upton Park.

Carlton Cole missed a penalty before a Matthew Upson own-goal and Elmander's first put Bolton two up and coasting towards their first win of the season after 68 minutes.

West Ham were handed a lifeline with 11 minutes remaining when Mark Noble showed Cole how to take a spot kick, the midfielder pulling one back for the Hammers from 12 yards to set up what promised to be a tense finale.

But any hope the hosts retained of pulling off a late comeback was dashed on 84 minutes when Elmander grabbed his second of the match to take his all-time Premier League tally into double figures and seal all three points for the Trotters.

The win saw Bolton continue their recent domination over West Ham - they have now won the last seven meetings over the Hammers in all competitions - and secure their fourth point of the fledgling season.

West Ham meanwhile remain pointless, and with a great deal of work to do before their season can get up and running; up next for Avram Grant's side are Manchester United and then Chelsea.
