  • Bolton 2-2 Blackpool: Petrov, Davies great-strike

Bolton came back late on to grab draw against Blackpool 2-2, after the Seasiders threw away a two goal lead.
Bolton have had the under-soil heating on all week at the Reebok stadium, but on a freezing day the match took a while to warm up.

Ian Evatt grabbed the opening goal for Blackpool from an Elliott Grandin corner in a less than entertaining first half, but in a frantic second half Blackpool increased their lead through Luke Varney who scored from another precise Grandin corner before Bolton fought back late on with goals from Martin Petrov and Mark Davies.

In a scrappy first half, neither side could create any real chance of note, and it was from a corner that Blackpool took the lead. Elliott Grandin whipped the ball in to the near post and Evatt flicked the ball on from the near post, beating both Jussi Jaaskelainen and Chung Yong Lee on the far post.

If the first half was somewhat dull, the second was anything but. Blackpool started strongly and got their second from an almost carbon copy of their first corner, this time Varney finding the net with a looping header from the near post.

Under Ian Holloway Blackpool have played some wonderful attacking football and despite being two goals ahead they continued to press forward looking for a third. Twice they went very close through DJ Campbell who forced Jaaskelainen into a good save and then minutes later should have done better when just one on one with the Finnish goalkeeper.

However, with Blackpool flooding forward looking for a third Bolton had space to exploit and they hit back late on to grab the draw. Martin Petrov, a second half substitute pulled one back with a wonderful volley from the edge of the area, flicking the ball up with his first touch and smashing the ball into the top corner with his second.

With just 25 minutes remaining Blackpool still failed to sit back and try and conserve their lead and they were punished when a brilliant flowing move in which Kevin Davies, Johann Elmander and then Ivan Klasnic combined inside the Blackpool penalty area before Mark Davies was found in space and he sidefooted home.

Had Blackpool won they could have moved up to seventh, as it is they stay in 10th and Bolton stay in fifth place.
