  • Westham 2-1 Birmingham: Foster blunder, Obinna sent-off

    West Ham United's slim win over Birmingham City 2-1 in the first leg League Cup semi-final. West Ham's victory helped by the blunders committed by the Birmingham goalkeeper, Ben Foster.

    In a match that was held at Upton Park on Tuesday (01/1/2011) , the home team took the lead thanks to goals from Mark Noble in the 13th minute. Noble Foster successfully conquered by a shot from a narrow angle.

    In the second half, Birmingham managed to score, precisely in the 56th minute. From a corner kick Sebastian Larsson, Liam Ridgewell's header could not be driven by West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green.

    Three minutes later, West Ham had to play with ten men after the referee expelled Victor Obinna. Nigerian players were sent-off because roughly Larsson.



    But Birmingham failed to take advantage of the players they have. Child care Alex McLeish even have conceded the second goal in the 78th minute due to blunders Foster.

    Carlton Cole's weak kick the ball seemed to be easily captured by the former Manchester United goalkeeper. But unexpectedly, their catch is not sticky and the ball still rolled into the goal past the crotch.

    With this defeat, to qualify for the finals Birmingham must win at least 1-0 in the second leg which will be held on home soil, in two weeks.

    Other semi-final contra Arsenal bring Ipswich Town. The first leg at home to Ipswich held on Wednesday (2/01/2011).
