  • Blackburn 1-2 Tottenham: Van der Vaart great-double

Rafael van der Vaart scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur moved up to fifth place in the Premier League with a 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Spurs took the lead after 14 minutes as Van der Vaart calmly slotted in Kyle Walker's low cross.

Rovers equalised when the unmarked Mauro Formica fired high into the net as Spurs failed to clear.

But Van der Vaart piled more pressure on Rovers manager Steve Kean when he curled in from the edge of the area after a pass from Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Kean was without the services of the injured Michel Salgado and Scott Dann. Simon Vukcevic made his first Premier League start, while Morten Gamst Pedersen and Formica also came into the side.

Spurs, beset by injury problems in defence, made two changes from the side that drew at Newcastle last week, with Sabastien Bassong and Aaron Lennon replacing Ledley King and Jake Livermore.
