  • Bolton 1-5 Chelsea: Sturridge double, Lampard hat-trick, Boyata header

Frank Lampard scored a hat-trick and Daniel Sturridge netted twice against his former club when Chelsea enjoyed a 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium, Sunday 02/10/2011.

Lampard - becoming only the fourth player to make 350 league appearances for Chelsea after Ron Harris, Peter Bonetti and John Hollins - gave further notice that he is no spent force just yet when scoring twice in a first half that saw Chelsea exploit some lamentable defending from the woefully out-of-form hosts.

Sturridge also scored twice as Chelsea raced into a four-goal lead after only 27 minutes, the forward refusing to celebrate against the side he scored eight times for during a loan spell last season, and although Dedryck Boyata pulled one back with a header, Lampard rounded off a flowing move after 59 minutes to add a fifth.

Kevin Davies disallowed goal, Unbelievable stop! Ivanovic clears off the line to prevent Davies from scoring after Petrov's cut-back. However, replays show that the ball may well have crossed the line.

Bolton hit the post! Eagles with a fantastic effort that Cech glances onto the woodowork! The scoreline could and should have been a bit closer than this as Bolton have finished strongly.

Bolton were comprehensively outplayed for much of the game when being condemned to their worst start to a season in over 100 years, but finished strongly and a shot from Kevin Davies appeared to cross the line before Chris Eagles struck the post with a fine late effort.

They remain bottom of the table with just three points from seven games, while Chelsea move into third and within three points of Manchester United and Manchester City.
