  • Fulham 6-0 QPR: Johnson hat-trick, Dempsey, Zamora great-strike

    A hat-trick from Andy Johnson gave Fulham a stunning 6-0 victory over an insipid QPR at Craven Cottage as Martin Jol recorded his first Premier League win in charge of the club in style, on Sunday 02/10/2011.
    A brace from Johnson and a penalty from Danny Murphy gave the hosts a three-goal advantage by half-time as Neil Warnock was left to lament some shoddy defending from his side.

    Johnson completed his first hat-trick for seven years with another clinical finish on the hour mark, before he turned provider as Clint Dempsey added a fifth, and a sixth was to follow as Bobby Zamora got his name on the scoresheet.

    The diminutive forward bagged a brace against Odense of Denmark on Thursday, and he was in sparkling form once again alongside Zamora while Jay Bothroyd was afforded no joy up against the commanding Brede Hangeland.



    The hosts were in front as early as the second minute after Andy Johnson hurtled in to slam home the rebound with Moussa Dembele's initial effort having been parried away by Paddy Kenny.

    Fulham careered forward at every opportunity, and Rangers keeper Kenny was sluggish coming off his line, then incredibly rash as he hauled down Johnson just inside the penalty area to concede a penalty.

    Danny Murphy smashed in his fourth successful spot kick of the season in emphatic fashion to double the Cottagers' lead with the visitors left utterly shell-shocked.

    QPR found themselves firmly under the cosh for sustained periods as Fulham attacked relentlessly in the sunshine, and a third goal was added in the 38th minute to compound Neil Warnock's misery.

    Zamora forced his way down the left before backheeling the ball to Dempsey, and eventually the striker received it back to provide Johnson with a close-range tap in to further stretch the hosts' lead.

    Warnock made a double change at what was unlikely to have been a peaceful QPR dressing room at the break as DJ Campbell and Tommy Smith came on for the ineffectual Adel Taarabt and Shaun Derry.

    But the changes from the visitors could not prevent Johnson completing his fifth career hat-trick on the hour mark as the forward latched on to a pinpoint through ball from Murphy to beat Kenny with yet another ruthless finish.

    Five minutes later, the inspired Johnson turned provider as he hurtled down the left and cut the ball back superbly from the byline to leave Dempsey with a simple finish to beat the helpless Kenny and make it five.

    Jamie Mackie made his long-awaited comeback following a lengthy lay-off, but it was a Fulham striker who next made his mark as Zamora grabbed his fifth goal of the season and Fulham's sixth of the day with an unerring low drive after receiving Dempsey's through ball.

    The last time Fulham scored six goals at Craven Cottage was back in 2004 against Norwich, and it was quite a way for Jol to register his first league win in charge of the club, while for QPR it was a chastening defeat in what was a truly dismal showing.
