  • Bolton 0-2 Everton: Fellaini ,Vellios scored, Wheater sent-off

Everton took full advantage of an early red card to David Wheater as goals from Marouane Fellaini and substitute Apostolos Vellios gave the visitors a 2-0 Premier League away win at the Reebok Stadium, Saturday 26/11/2011.
Wheater received a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Diniyar Bilyaletdinov within the opening 20 minutes and from then on, the match became an uphill struggle for the home side.

It was Everton who made the livelier start amidst teaming rain, Jaaskelainen forced into an early reaction save to prevent Jagielka diverting a free-kick home. And with Diniyar Bilyaletdinov at the heart of everything creative about the Everton attack and Leighton Baines causing constant problems down the left, Bolton had their hands full before their task was made even more difficult when Wheater received a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Bilyaletdinov. Wheater flew in with his studs up, leaving the referee with little choice and the winger down for several minutes before applying extra strapping to his shin pad.

Despite the setback, Bolton actually enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the first half. Chris Eagles caused problems for the Everton defence down the left wing and Tim Howard was forced into beating away a fierce shot from Ivan Klasnic.

In a half of precious few chances, Everton should have gone ahead on 35 minutes following a good exchange of passes between Baines, Tim Cahill and Bilyaletdinov before the ball dropped came to Louis Saha who was caught just offside.

But Everton did not have to wait until long into the second half for their numerical advantage to tell, the excellent Bilyaletdinov storming down the left before crossing for Felliani to stab home into an empty net. Moments later, Cahill played in Saha but he shot straight into the hands of Jaaskelainen.

Bolton nearly found a way back into the game through Klasnic, but Howard did well to save with his legs. With Bolton re-shuffling to plug the hole left by Wheater in defence, Everton introduced Vellios for Saha and the substitution paid dividends almost immediately. Great work down the right from Seamus Coleman not only kept the ball in play but his stretching foot crossed for Vellios to sidefoot calmly into the net past Jaaskelainen.

Everton’s first back-to-back victory since April lifts them to eighth in the table whilst Bolton’s woes continue. Defeat means that they are still deep in relegation trouble and have only one win and six defeats at home, the worst record in the Premier League.
