  • Blackburn 1-2 Westbrom: Morrison ,Odemwingie wonder-strike

A late wonder strike from Peter Odemwingie condemned Blackburn to a 2-1 Premier League defeat and pile more pressure on Steve Kean.
Odemwinge cut in from the right wing to beat Morten Gamst Pedersen before curling a beautiful shot inside Paul Robinson's far post to put the visitors on the way to only their second win in seven matches. Defeat for Blackburn means they remain deep in relegation trouble and angry fans yet again vented their frustration at the manager.

James Morrison had earlier given West Brom the lead with the 1000th Premier League goal of 2011, before Scott Dann levelled for Rovers.

A fairly tepid first half provided precious few chances and West Brom had the best of them. The lively Odemwingie had an early sight of goal, blasting it over the bar before he glanced a header across the face of goal when a stronger connection was needed to test Robinson. The Baggies striker then tested Robinson with a fierce shot from the edge of the box, but the former England number one was alive to the danger, bundling it behind for a corner.

At the other end, Ruben Rochina provided the best chance of a goal for Blackburn, wriggling his way into the West Brom box but dallying too long to see his shot blocked. Pedersen then tested Ben Foster, who tipped his dipping free kick just over the bar.

Steven Reid came to West Brom's rescue with an outstanding tackle to deny David Dunn just as the midfielder was about to pull the trigger. In doing so, Reid's shoulder accidentally caught Dunn in the face, and the Blackburn player received lengthy treatment before getting groggily back on his feet.

If the first half failed to inspire, a cracking strike from Morrison five minutes after the interval set the game alight. West Brom won a corner and the ball fell to Morrison on the edge of the box, the midfielder catching the ball first time on the volley to rifle it into the corner of Robinson's net.

There followed a lengthy period of possession for the visitors before Blackburn levelled matters somewhat against the run of play from a long free-kick just inside their own half. Robinson pumped the ball into the West Brom box and Chris Samba rose well to head the ball down to a waiting Dann to fire home from close range. Pure route one stuff.

Odemwinge continued to cause Blackburn problems at the other end, the hosts grateful to see his shot deflected away for a corner. But the most influential player on the pitch was not to be denied for long and his fantastic strike two minutes from time sent the disgruntled Blackburn fans flooding to the exits.
