  • Manchester City 2-0 Valencia: Barry, Jo scored

Manchester City rounded off their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Valencia at Eastlands on Saturday, 07/08/2010.

City manager Roberto Mancini handed home debuts to £80million quartet Yaya Toure, David Silva, George Boateng and Aleksandar Kolarov and was rewarded with a promising performance.

City dominated for long spells against the Spanish side and went ahead when Boateng provided a telling cross for Gareth Barry to convert a header on 24 minutes.

Silva and Carlos Tevez departed after 35 minutes of the match, but the usual rash of substitutions that blight such matches failed to stifle the home team's appetite.

They had several chances to score a second before second-half substitutes Patrick Vieira and Jo combined to make it two seven minutes from time.

Former Arsenal midfielder Vieira cut a dash into the box and the ball broke kindly for Jo to convert.

City open their Premier League campaign at Tottenham on Saturday.

Mancini will hope to have summer signing targets Aston Villa midfielder James Milner and Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli in the squad that travels to London as his spending passes the £100million mark.

Champions League participants Valencia do not begin their La Liga campaign until August 28 when they take on Malaga.
