  • Sunderland 0-2 Blackpool: Campbell great-double

A second half double from DJ Campbell handed Blackpool a smash-and-grab win as they beat Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday 28/12/2010.
Sunderland had more than 30 shots on goal, but nothing their attacking-minded side could do was enough to beat the charmed Richard Kingson.

Darren Bent, Asamoah Gyan and Danny Welbeck were all lively but wasteful, and the closest the home side came to the back of the net was when Bent's free kick rapped the woodwork late on.

Blackpool move into eighth place in the Premier League with their fifth away win of the season.

    The Game

    # 90' BLACKPOOL SCORE! THAT WILL DO! CAMPBELL! Phillips cuts inside, hits a low ball to the far post where Campbell is waiting to tuck it in. He's offside - he's judged it perfectly. Sunderland will be bemused.
    # 85' BENT HITS THE WOODWORK! Beautiful free kick, taken right-footed. It even rebounds off Kingson - but goes away safe.
    # 83' SUNDERLAND AGONISINGLY CLOSE! Cathcart and Evatt make horrible errors, but somehow Kingson saves Bent's effort from six yards, and it bounces to Al Muhammadi whose effort is blocked by a header from Evatt!
    # 82' CATTERMOLE CLOSE! Good hit from just inside the area, Kingson splashes at the save but gathers at the second attempt
    # 80' CLOSE! Corner for Sunderland - Ferdinand forward - Henderson's ball finds Welbeck, and Kingson was nowhere near it at all - but the header goes wide!
    # 70' WHAT A SAVE FROM KINGSON! He denies Malbranque at his near post terrifically. It's been a combination of the sublime and the ridiculous, but he's keeping Sunderland out. You can't look away from him!
    # 66' BARDSLEY CLOSE! He thunders a low shot through a crowd in the box and Kingson denies him. Gyan at his feet for the rebound but he's offside now that he's an active player again.
    # 64' CHANCE FOR BLACKPOOL AGAIN! Cathcart slams a free far-post header into the net! Another good opportunity!
    # 64' ALMOST BLACKPOOL'S SECOND! Great little angled cross from Vaughan, which Taylor-Fletcher and Bardsley compete for, and Bardsley just manages to help it past the far post.
    # 57' GREAT MOVE FROM SUNDERLAND, GYAN CLOSE! Welbeck works into the middle, then turns and plays in Henderson who sends in a super low ball towards Gyan, but somehow it goes over the bar!
    # 50' CAMPBELL SCORES! BLACKPOOL LEAD! The delivery comes in from Eardley, a good one which Evatt nods on straight into Campbell's path, and it's guided into the corner!
    # 48' WELBECK CLOSE! The Sunderland pressure continues as Bent gets the better of Cathcart, then holds up and invites Welbeck to shoot - but Kingson makes a save.
    # 45' GYAN! HOW DOES HE MISS? The ball falls to him at the far post after Al-Muhammadi's cross is not properly cleared, and somehow his effort goes wide of the upright.
    # 40' HENDERSON CLOSE! That perhaps should have been a goal - or perhaps Kingson should do better - but somehow it's not in. Henderson drove low after being teed up by Bent, but straight at Kingson, who contrives to flip the ball unconvincingly around the post.
    # 38' CAMPBELL SO CLOSE! He cuts inside having beaten his man, and flashes a shot from 20 yards just inches wide of the post. Both sides having their opportunities!
    # 34' WELBECK CLOSE! He gets on the end of a low and inviting Henderson cross from the right, but doesn't get a good touch on the ball from point-blank range, and punches the ground in frustration.
    # 32' BENT CLOSE! He gets a bit of luck with the lack of an offside flag, but muscles his way into a good position only to misjudge his shot at the far post - his radar hasn't quite been working this afternoon.
    # 30' CLOSE FROM CAMPBELL! GREAT RUN FROM PHILLIPS! The substitute tears down the right and then turns past two defenders to play a tempting cross into Campell. He doesn't hit it first time, turning away instead, but knocks it too far and his shot is wide.
    # 26' GYAN SO CLOSE! Great ball from deep from Cattermole puts the Ghanaian through - Cathcart holds him up a little but he beats Kingson and he might just squeeze it in from a tight angle, but finds the side netting instead!
    # 10' BENT MISSES! It was a good chance after Gyan won a header to get the Black Cats moving - the ball through from Welbeck was superbly-judged by the shot was a disappointment.
