  • Westbrom 1-3 Blackburn: Kalinic great-double & sent-off, Tamas red-card

Steve Kean tasted victory for the first time as Blackburn Rovers manager as his side beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 at The Hawthorns on Tuesday 28/12/2010.
Nikola Kalinic sprang the offside trap before firing low into the bottom corner to put the visitors ahead in just the fourth minute, though West Brom reacted well, and Jerome Thomas grabbed an equaliser from close range on 17 minutes.

Close-range headers from Kalinic and Mame Diouf at the start of the second half put the game beyond a profligate West Brom side, before Kalinic was given his marching orders on 65 minutes for a horrendous tackle on Paul Scharner.

Gabriel Tamas was also sent off late on for a cynical challenge on substitute Benjani.

The result sees Blackburn climb to ninth, while West Brom slip to 13th in the Premier League, four points above the relegation zone.

    The game

    # 87' Benjani turns Tamas brilliantly, and Tamas then hacks him down with a cynical challenge!!! He's already on a booking, so will surely be off here! HE IS! It's ten v ten now.
    # 82' Hanley is somewhat harshly punished for what seemed a fair challenge on Odemwingie. Dorrans puts a dangerous ball into the area...AND SCHARNER HEADS ONTO THE BAR!!! It looks like it's not going to fall for the Baggies this afternoon.
    # 80' Mame Diouf is now through for Blackburn, he's at a tight angle, but has a shot...saved by Carson! Decent hit, and he didn't have a lot of choice but to hit it, as he was all alone.
    # 73' WHAT A CHANCE FOR WEST BROM! TWICE! The ball was but back to Cox ten yards out, he hit it first time, Bunn made a super one-handed save, it came back out to Cox, but he could only head the ball into the ground and over!!!
    # 64' AWFUL, AWFUL TACKLE FROM KALINIC ON SCHARNER. HE'S SHOWN A STRAIGHT RED! He went in, studs showing, and caught Scharner halfway up the inside of his shin. Well, maybe it's not over yet. Blackburn have half an hour to survive with just ten men.
    # 62' GOAL!!! El-Hadji Diouf takes a corner short, clips it in to the edge of the six-yard box AND THERE'S MAME DIOUF TO HEAD HOME WHAT COULD WELL BE THE GOAL THAT CLINCHES STEVE KEAN'S FIRST WIN AS BLACKBURN BOSS!!!
    # 59' OOH! Almost a horrendous error from Carson as he gives the ball straight to Kalinic right in front of him, but it came too quickly at the Croat for him to control it, and Carson is able to gather again!
    # 52' GOAL!!! The second corner leads to Blackburn's second goal, and it's Nikola Kalinic once again!!!
    # 32' Thomas flashes a shot past the far post after a lovely one-two with Morrison on the edge of the area!
    # 17' GOAL!!! Jerome Thomas pulls West Brom level, sidefooting home at the far post from Tchoyi's excellent cross from the right flank!!!
    # 15' Dunn threads a lovely ball through to Kalinic, he takes one touch to set himself, before curling a right-foot shot just over the bar! That was almost Blackburn's second.
    # 9' Lovely wall pass from Odemwingie to send Dorrans racing into the area, he drives a low shot across goal, and Robinson tips it round the post!!
    # 4' GOAL!!! Nikola Kalinic puts Blackburn 1-0 up!!! El Hadji-Diouf plays in Kalinic with a beautiful ball right in behind the West Brom defence, the Croat closed in on goal, and placed a low shot into the bottom right hand corner!
