  • Stoke City 1-1 West Bromwich : Delap header, Vela great-finish

Carlos Vela came off the bench to rescue a deserved point for West Brom in a 1-1 Premier League draw with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
The on-loan Arsenal striker pounced from Steven Reid's cross to fire the ball under the outstanding Asmir Begovic on 87 minutes.

Vela and team-mate Peter Odemwingie looked to be standing in an offside position before the goal, but it was little more than Roy Hodgson's side deserved for a spirited recovery in the second period.

Rory Delap had given Stoke the lead when he headed Jermaine Pennant's corner beyond Scott Carson on 53 minutes in what was his first goal at home in two years.

West Brom move out of the relegation spots. They are fourth bottom of the table, a point ahead of Wolves and West Ham and two points clear of bottom placed Wigan Athletic.

West Brom almost won it in the dying seconds when Begovic made excellent stops to twice deny Vela, Graham Dorrans and Somen Tchoyi in a frantic finale to the match.

Hodgson has drawn his first three games as West Brom manager following a 3-3 draw with West Ham United and 1-1 with Wolves at home.

Vela had struck in stoppage time to earn the Baggies a draw with Wolves, and was again the main man for Hodgson.

The visiting fans gave their new manager a standing ovation at the full-time whistle for an excellent all-round performance.

It was Stoke's first draw of the year having being the only Premier League beforehand not to draw a match.

They can have few complaints after being outplayed for large swatches of the second period.
