  • Switzerland 2-0 Iceland: Frei superb-finish

Switzerland took a giant stride towards the last four of the Euro 21 finals with a 2-0 win over an outclassed Iceland in Aalborg.
Switzerland have won their opening two matches of the tournament after a 1-0 win over host nation Denmark in their opening Group A match on Saturday.

Fabian Frei cracked home a venomous shot in the opening minute of the game after a lovely little ball by Xherdan Shaqiri had sent the midfielder racing clear beyond the toiling Iceland defence.

Innocent Emeghara added a deserved second on 40 minutes when he sped away from the opposing defence to slam a shot beyond the Iceland keeper Haraldur Bjornsson.

A couple of Iceland defenders did their best to keep it out, but the ball spun up and over the goalkeeper before nestling in the net.

It was more or less game over at that stage as Switzerland's technical ability proved too problematic for Iceland to deal with.

Iceland's best and perhaps only opening of the afternoon arrived on 55 minutes when Frei did wonderfully well to get the ball off the line after Kolbeinn Sigthorsson had knocked it goalwards from Gylfi Sigurdsson's cross.

Switzerland could and should have had more than two goals as Bjornsson did well http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifto repel a shot by Shaqiri on eight minutes while Emeghara and Granit Xhaka were unlucky with a couple of fine efforts.

The second half was a non-event as the Swiss seemed content to sit on their 2-0 lead, but the impressive Bjornsson had to be alert to keep out another menacing shot by the speedy Emerghara on 79 minutes.

A disappointing Iceland side have lost both their games in the tournament having gone down 2-0 to Belarus in their opening game and are likely to be departing the scene after their final group match against Denmark on Saturday.
