  • Westbrom 0-1 Everton: Anichebe great-finish

Victor Anichebe struck three minutes from time as Everton beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at The Hawthorns in 2012's first Premier League game.
The substitute capitalised on a horrible error by Paul Scharner, finishing from close range after the defender unwittingly headed the ball across the face of his own goal.

Anichebe had not scored a Premier League goal since March 2010, and his effort continued Everton's happy knack of scoring late in games.

David Moyes's side have now won 11 of their 24 points with goals in the final 10 minutes.

Roy Hodgson was left fuming at his side's slack defending, and was dealt another blow when captain Chris Brunt limped off injured in stoppage time.

A scrappy encounter provided an inauspicious start to the year and did little to ease the sore heads of a quiet Hawthorns crowd who have seen the Baggies lose three of their last four home games.
