  • Stoke 1-3 Newcastle: Ba hat-trick, Walters penalty

Demba Ba's hat-trick fired Newcastle United to a 3-1 win over Stoke City and into third place in the Premier League, Monday 31/10/2011.
The visitors took advantage of a limp Stoke showing in the first half to build a two-goal lead, with Ba clinical from close range.

Stoke were much-improved in the second half, and got themselves back into the game with a quarter of an hour remaining when Jonathan Walters blasted home a penalty.

But Newcastle were awarded a spot-kick of their own five minutes later and Ba sent Asmir Begovic the wrong way to wrap up his third, and with it the match for the Magpies.

As reported by Soccernet, Newcastle only recorded three shots on goal in this match. That is, they were able to complete the entire shot that leads right into the goal to be scored. Compare with Stoke who scored 12 shots, but only three that leads right into the goal and the only one that became a goal.

This is the sixth victory in 10 matches Newcastle in the Premier League, where the remaining four other matches ended in a draw. This victory also brought their position up to number three, pass Chelsea, with a collection of 22 points.

While Stoke positions still remain in the order of 12 with a collection of 12 points.
